Nook on the Street, Sept. 5

On Tuesday, August 29, North Korea launched ballistic missile tests near Japan. A few days later the U.S. partnered with South Korea in a joint military exercise which included bombing drills. Some are seeing this as a response to events in North Korea, this week we asked students, what are your thoughts about this situation?

“I’m glad we’re doing exercises just in case.”

Nathaniel Oleman, elementary education, senior

“North Korea is very scared of the outside world. It shouldn’t be blamed entirely upon the people involved because their leaders are the ones making the decisions…”

Brently Powell, mechanical engineering, freshman

“It would be reasonable to assume it’s a response. There’s definitely been an increase in tensions there and they probably want a show of force.”

Alanna Bailey, general studies (undeclared), freshman

“I think it’s sad that that happened, but I don’t know too much about it.”

Shalene Holstrom, rural development, senior

“I don’t have much of an opinion. I haven’t been up to date on it.”

Zane Taylor, justice, freshman
