Sun Star Picks, Dec. 5-11

Tuesday, December 5

The UAF Science Communication Club is hosting a science edition pub trivia night. The trivia starts at 8 p.m. at The Pub, the cost is $5 per team. There will be many chances to win lots of pub prizes and science swag. And since it’s taking place in The Pub, there will be plenty of food and drinks to order. – Matt Mertes / Staff Writer

Wednesday, December 6

Do you have an ugly sweater hiding in your closet? Don’t lie…we all do. So take it out from it’s 364 day hiatus early for the Ugly Sweater Sing-Along at Arctic Java from 7 – 9 p.m. Deck the halls in your disgustingly adorable knitted glory for all to see. – Cheyenne Corty / Layout Editor

Thursday, December 7

Today is going to be the Sun Star’s last freelance meeting of the year. So I feel no guilt whatsoever in telling you that it’s at noon in 305 Constitution Hall and, if you’ve been wanting to write or take photos this semester and haven’t gotten around to it yet, this will be your last chance this semester. Plus, we pay people for their work, so maybe you can score some last minute shopping money. – Kyrie / Editor-in-Chief

Friday, December 8

If you’re a fan of card games and that good old cyberpunk aesthetic and have never tried Android: Netrunner, now is your chance. The Comic Shop is putting on a tournament starting at 6:30 p.m. There’s a $5 entry fee, and if you get first place you could get $20 of store credit. The Comic Shop Facebook page has a full list of banned and restricted cards for making your decks. – Ben Ellis / Web Editor

Saturday, December 9

Kick off the most wonderful month of the year with some yuletide shopping. From 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., the Carlson Center will be host to a Holiday Bazaar where you can get some last-minute presents for your loved ones. If you’re done playing Santa for your friends and family, you can just come by and look at all the cool knick-knacks and doodads that the bazaar has to offer. Who knows, maybe you’ll end up getting something for yourself this Christmas. – Alex Frania / Photo Editor

Sunday, December 10

On this day in 1978 “Superman: The Movie” premiered, starring Christopher Reeve as Superman. Considering “Justice League” had it’s premier a few weeks ago, I’m going to take this chance (as always) to fondly recommend a trip to Regal Cinemas. It might be worth it, if only to relax for a few hours before you inevitably wake up to finals week on Monday morning. – Kyrie Long / Editor-in-Chief

Monday, December 11

Happy Starting Day of Finals. I suggest buckling down and getting them over with as you can, but never forgetting to stop by Arctic Java for that morning (and afternoon) cup of coffee. And don’t stress too much, once this is over we’re on break for a good while. – Kyrie Long / Editor-in-Chief
