The mission of The Sun Star is to provide a consistent and trusted brand of news, opinion, and art that represents the interests and achievements of the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ student body.
The Sun Star will provide opportunities for students to hone their skills in pitching stories, writing, editing, and review as well as in adopting best practices in their writing including journalistic ethics and writing standards.

The Sun Star was created by the merger of The Polar Star and The Northern Sun. Prior to that time, The Polar Star was published by ASUAF, and The Northern Sun was published by the UAF Journalism Department.
For over seventy years, The Sun Star (formerly The Polar Star) has engaged with the culture of UAF and Fairbanks to produce work which has won journalism awards from the Alaska Press Club, the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, and others.
After a two-year hiatus, we are proud to continue a tradition of publication, by students, for students.

Production Staff
Amber McCain is a pop culture enthusiast, journalism major, and mom of three teenagers. After a decade as a lifestyle blogger, she’s now channeling her passion for storytelling into her studies. When she’s not writing or attending classes, Amber enjoys gardening, being outdoors, and soaking up Alaska’s rare sunshine. She’s always on the lookout for everyday inspiration, and the occasional plot twist.
Taight Jackson is originally from Texas and moved to Alaska to study psychology at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. She enjoys reading, writing, playing instruments, the occasional curveball in her everyday life, and in a rare event that she isn’t absorbed in a book, going on hikes and adventures. She has always been passionate about journalism and writing, so much so that she knows it will always be a part of her.

Aaron Thomas was raised in Southern California and moved to Alaska to study English at UAF. When he is not in the mountains or running ultramarathons, he enjoys reading and playing guitar.
Britany Adorno-Alicea is an english major with a minor in journalism. She is from the lovely island of Puerto Rico. A creative writer since elementary school, Britany has always had a passion for writing and creating. When they aren't stuck with their nose in a book, you can find her playing video games, crocheting, writing another short story, or investing time in learning a new hobby or researching a new topic that has caught her interest.

Louis Seymour
Louis Seymour is a wildlife biology and conservation major at UAF. Originally from Upstate South Carolina, they have always enjoyed meeting new people and seeing new places. Outside of school, Louis enjoys getting outdoors and practicing photography.
Gabriele Rigaudo is a Cell & Molecular Biology major at UAF. An international student from Italy, he moved to Alaska to compete for the university ski team. He believes that focusing on only one thing is the shortest road to boredom. With this in mind, he realized that life in the lab needed some extra spice. As a science columnist, he hopes to spotlight the coolest research on campus and get students to read about it.

Jonathan Wasilewski is an undergraduate journalism major at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. When he's not vigorously working on his Bachelor of Arts, he enjoys being outside, taking photos, writing, working out, being with friends and animals, doing anything with maps or geography, and practicing Christanity. Fluent in English and in the process of learning Russian and Yup'ik, Jonathan writes often and adores the art of expression. In short, he is quite ecstatic about making the world a better place: one word at a time.
