Nanooks Hockey Take the Win Against Simon Fraser University

The Nanooks hockey team faced off against Simon Fraser University on January 11 after beating them 2-1 the day prior. The Nanooks started the first period off strong with Luke Johnson delivering two goals, putting the Nanooks in the lead with 2-0. UAF’s Trenton Penner received a tripping foul, which is when an opposing teammate trips another intentionally. This foul occurred during the first period, which resulted in a penalty. Shortly after the penalty, the opposing team scored their first goal. The Nanooks challenged the tripping foul, then released after a replay.

During the game, UAF’s Lassi Lehti was able to prevent opposing goals by catching them in his glove on multiple occasions. He ended the game with a total of twenty saves. Cole Plowman made the remaining nine saves. UAF’s Haden Kruse, Fyodor Nickolayenya, and Brenden Ross achieved goals during the second period. The opposing team scored two goals during the third period. With less than a minute left in the third period, UAF’s Bryce Monrean achieved his final goal of the night, leaving the Nanooks with a 6-3 score.
